Condominium building in Umbertide (PG)

Foundation consolidation with Lift Pile® and expanding resin injections
Structure: Isolated condominium building, built in 1967. The building, located in the plains on Via Unità D’Italia in Umbertide (PG), consists of three above-ground floors, an attic and a basement, with a vertical structure of solid brick masonry, internal partitions of perforated brick blocks, and attics and roofing of late concrete. Foundations: continuous type foundation, direct and consisting of a cement mixture of stone and gravel, having a thickness of 40cm.
Failure: network of lesions with sub-vertical, sub-horizontal and inclined paths. The cracking framework, with tensile failure, was produced by shear and bending stresses, corresponding to asymmetric deformations that classify the failure as differential vertical terminal translation for total height. Slight subsidence affects the eastern portion where differential vertical translation is evident. The subsidence began in the year 1994 and has progressively worsened, particularly in 2016, due to seismic events.
Soil: presence, below ground level, of the following stratification:
-from p.c. to 0.45-0.75m: topsoil.
–from 0.45-0.75 to 6.2-6.8: clayey silt.
-From 6.2-6.8 to 8.6-9.25: gravels in sandy matrix.
In the western portion, between 6.2 and 7.4mt, fine sand is found. This is followed by compact clayey silt. The surface clayey lithotype is subject to volumetric shrinkage and contraction by drying with subsequent swelling as a result of seasonal climatic and rainfall patterns.
Il Progetto

Intervention: consolidation of foundation by laying 37 LIFT PILE® (pressure micropiles with preloading device) and performing 04 injections of KERASTABLE® expanding polymers on a depth level
Quantity of resin used: about 60 kilograms of injected product
Average depth reached by the micropiles in relation to the paving level: 6 meters
Average driving pressure: 220bar corresponding to 22 tons
Preloading pressure: 500Nm
Duration of consolidation work: 4 days
Number of site operators: 3
