Energy efficiency – from class A2 to class A4

The intervention took place at a house located in Bosco Chiesanuova, consisting of two overlapping units. The building, built and renovated in the 2000s, was in need of further improvements to the systems and insulation.

Project Description.
Proposed solution: We replaced the existing pellet boiler with a new geothermal heat pump. About 300 meters of closed-loop vertical geothermal probes were installed in the outdoor garden. In addition, a 10-11 kW solar photovoltaic system and three solar thermal panels were installed on the roof. A graphene storage battery was also installed.

Benefits
Improvement in energy class: The dwelling was upgraded from energy class A2 to class A4.
Emission reduction: Improved heat pump efficiency through solar and geothermal systems.
Energy savings: Significant savings on energy expenses for the owner.
Living comfort: Uniform heating of the entire building, improving indoor comfort.
Low maintenance: The heat pump requires less maintenance than the pellet boiler.

Technical Details.
Geothermal heat pump: Installation of about 300 meters of vertical geothermal probes in the garden.
Solar thermal and photovoltaic panels: Rooftop installation of a 10-11 kW system.
Graphene storage battery: Innovative battery with a service life of about 15,000 charge and discharge cycles.
Thermal insulation: Exterior coat and insulation of the last attic floor.

Results
Pre-intervention energy class: A2
Post-intervention energy class: A4

Conclusions
The intervention at the home in Bosco Chiesanuova resulted in a significant improvement in economy and living comfort. The combination of advanced technologies optimized energy efficiency, reducing CO2 emissions and ensuring even and continuous heating throughout the day. In addition, the reduced maintenance of the heat pump has eliminated the burden of having to load and clean the pellet boiler.
