Structure: Private building for residential use located in Via delle Gardenie, Marina di Montemarciano AN with staircase body and garden built on external slab.
Foundations: staircase body resting on reinforced concrete slab and the wall against the ground on foundation with internal reinforced concrete scarp.
Cracking: at the junction between the main body and the external bodies, vertical cracks formed mainly due to outward roto-translation suffered by the external bodies with the presence of a horizontal component . The crack framework, with tensile cracks, was produced by bending stresses corresponding to asymmetrical deformations. The failure is therefore classified as terminal differential vertical translation for a total height with a main vertical and a secondary horizontal rotational component.
Land: presence of topsoil up to depths of- 1.00 mt from the p.c.; clays with sand constituting the blanket up to – 2.30 mt from the p,c.; weakly clayey silt (colluvial-eluvial blanket) up to – 4.50 mt from the p.c. on marly clay of the altered Plio-Pleistocene substrate. Such soils are subject to volumetric shrinkage and contraction phenomena due to drying of surface lithotypes and subsequent swelling as a result of seasonal climatic and rainfall patterns. Phenomena that find accentuation in the dewatering action exerted by the suction of tree roots in the vicinity of the building, in leaks or dispersions of water or sewage systems, and in the inadequate regulation of downspout drainage water; for the above-mentioned phenomenologies, careful verification and eventual, prompt restoration is recommended.
