Structure: Private building for residential use located in Via di Mezzo, Toscanella di Dozza BO, built in the mid-1970s and consisting of two above-ground floors with solid brick masonry, floors and roofing in late concrete.
Foundations: from the results of the assays performed by Novatek Ltd. the foundations consist of concrete and are at a depth of about – 125 cm from the ground floor; the northeast porch pillar rests on plinths that are at a depth of – 0.75 cm from the ground floor. The floor rests on unreinforced screed about 13 cm thick.
Failure: lattice of lesions (single- and multiple-branch inclined, sub-horizontal and sub-vertical) produced by shear and bending stresses corresponding to asymmetrical deformations, shows shear-flexion type ruptures with phase of detachment motion, with relative type of motion and classifies failures as relative terminal differential vertical translations.
Soil: the results of the penetrometric test performed by Novatek srl show the presence of clay-loamy soils and/or vice versa. Such soils are subject to phenomena of volumetric shrinkage and contraction due to drying of surface lithotypes and subsequent swelling as a result of seasonal climatic and rainfall trends. Phenomena that are accentuated by the dewatering action exerted by the suction of tree roots in the vicinity of the building, in leaks or dispersions of water or sewage systems and in the improper regulation of drainage water from downspouts; for the above-mentioned phenomenologies, careful verification and eventual, prompt restoration is recommended.
